In Which Music Actually Killed Characters - A Glee Season 2 Finale Post

I don’t even know how to start this out. There is just too much rage to handle this. I am sure that TV Line actually liked this episode though, that dude seems to like shit when it is covered in Klaine and horrible plot.

Glee Season 2 Finale Spoilers....

Ok. I know where to start. Let’s go back to the beginning, no not of the episode, but of the season. It was a great start, like from Auditions to Duets it was pretty good. I could have done without Grilled Chessus, but it served its purpose. Then it just went to random shit. It wasn’t until it came back with The Sue Sylvestor Shuffle that it started to get good. Comeback was when it picked up and got amazing again, and for 8 episodes it was some amazing piece of Glee work. Then we get to Funeral and the mess of an episode that it was, I just chalked it up to being a Funk like episode. We should have known that it was the calm before the shit storm that would come out of the finale, so let’s talk about that.

Now before you I hear the bullshit of the ‘You’re only mad because Kum didn’t happen’, let me say fuck that. I am just fine without Kurt and Sam hooking up. My dependency on the show does not linger on that, I mean I am a pretty big Sam/Quinn shipper, I am a Kurt/Sam shipper because of the other shippers. Seriously, they are super cool shippers who aren’t super cray like some other shippers out there, yeah I’m looking at you Klainers (I’m not even gonna beat around the bush about it). Long story short, I don’t care if Sam is straight, gay, bi, transgender, or what the hell ever, as long as he is super adorable Sam. Would I be happy if he was bi? Well yeah, it would be a great storyline that I think would touch a lot more people than Blaine ever could.

Onto the episode itself: WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! I think we got like a total of MAYBE 8-10 minutes of non-singing. THE FUCK? I understand that this is a show about music, but damn this is the finale and it is supposed to be about the characters, not JUST the music.

I’m just gonna do this in a pro-con list, it is going to be the easiest way to do it.

THE PRO’S:
- Rachel. She was pretty much my favorite in this episode. I loved that she chose her career over anything else, even if she did choose Finn at the end. I don’t blame her for that as long as she ends up in New York after High School. She loves Finn, so why can’t she be happy while she is in Ohio?

-Rachel and Kurt. I love their support system for each other. They really are soul mates and I REALLY want a spin-off with these two in New York. Throw in Santana, Brittany, and Quinn and you got the best thing ever. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was awesome and Rachel should have been dressed up like Audrey.

-The long overdue Quinn/Santana/Brittany talk. It was just so great to see the three of them together again, and Santana actually being the level headed one here was fun to see. Plus Quinn not being that into ~that. They need to continue with this friendship into Season 3, I know they won’t but it’s fun to be wishful. Also, the fact that Quinn knows that Santana is a lesbian and has treated her NO differently is amazing. Either that or the writers just did not care to address it in anything but humor because that is apparently all that Santana's storyline is..

-Santana. Not only did she sing quite a bit in this episode she has some really great moments. Especially her latina lima heights rage blackout. CLASSIC. I couldn’t have been happier with that. Lost my shit. And her voodoo doll? YES PLEASE. I may love Rachel but I love her rage at her. It wouldn’t be Santana without it.

-Patti LuPone was a great addition to the episode as well. I wish that Kurt would have been there to meet her, but you take what you can get.

- Sam had a scene without his football jacket. Yeah, that is a pro.

-PINKY HOLDING.

THE CON’S
-WHERE THE FUCK WAS BRITTANA?! I mean seriously? There was all this build-up for it and then we get…nothing. Santana saying that they are best friends, and then what? Nothing. This was the BIGGEST let down of the episode. I mean it is just ludicrous that they would have all this development and not do ANYTHING with it in the finale. It is the finale, you are supposed to go big, but since Santana is not a gay male she isn’t going to get anything. There should have been SOMETHING more. Anything. A breakup with Artie, or something to at least indicate that it could happen at any time. But no, all we get is Brittany saying that anything is possible, which really means two fucks in this show.

-Too much music and nothing else.

-Quinn’s Big Plans. So her big plans were to ruin Nationals? REALLY? That is what you are going to do Quinn? Ruin everyone’s time because Finn is pretty douchey? I should have known that when the 15 songs for the episode were released that there would be no time for anything to actually happen.

-Sam/Mercedes. So let me get this straight, because they went to Prom only sort of together they are gonna hook up? Really? Left field with nothing beforehand. Like not even a hint or hints littered around to show that there is actually something there. OMG, I forgot he asked her to dance at prom. MEANT TO BE OBVIOUSLY. Also, aren’t they casting for Mercedes to have a love interest next season? What? Darren Criss is too much of a money maker that they tossed out the original jock idea for Kurt so that he can be with Mercedes? BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TOTS??!

- Mr. Shue pretty much left the kids alone the whole time so that he can do shit for himself. No wonder they lost Nationals, he had them all come up with songs the day of the competition and then Finn and Rachel get blamed? Really? He is the teacher of Glee and he was basically just there for himself up until they caught him and then decided to actually be there. Wow. Way to be. Also, I thought he wasn’t going to drink until AFTER Nationals? Thanks for the pizza Mr. Shue, totally makes up for the fact that you are a shitty Glee teacher.

- Klaine. SERIOUSLY?! SERIOUSLY???!? I would take this relationship more seriously if Kurt wasn’t only with him because THE SINGING GOD THAT IS BLAINE WARBLER is the only gay around. I just.. Please tell me that I am the only one that saw Kurt’s face when Blaine said ‘I Love You’ and it felt like ‘oh no’ rather than ‘oh yes!’. Not to mention Sam seemed more excited for Kurt’s summer plans than Blaine did. WAY TO BE SUPPORTIVE AS USUAL BLAINE. SORRY HE ISN’T ALL ABOUT YOUR SOLO’S. I do not care about this and it is not an epic love story. Did anyone else notice that because Blaine was not around, Kurt actually interacted with other people?

-WHAT ABOUT THE CHARACTERS?! Seriously, this is the second thing I am the most pissed off about and it kinda goes along with my number one thing (Brittana). This was a finale and there was more character development in fucking ‘Rumours’. I’m sorry if I can’t be all super happy that Finchel got together and that is apparently the only development in the show that matters. I know that may come off as kind of hypocritical when I am so upset about Brittana not getting anything, but damn, the writers have already told us that Rachel and Finn will live happily ever after and there is nothing to worry about. Why not have some focus on other relationships or hell just the characters alone. The only character that got development was Rachel. I am a big Rachel fan, but it shouldn’t have been all about her. We got like 10 seconds of Quinn and then after her Zoloft infused haircut she was done. What about ANYONE else?

THE MUSIC
"As Long As You're There"
Why did Sunshine get a musical performance? I mean you ignored her ALL season, why bring her back to the finale just to steal time away from character development.

"Bella Notte"
They worked this into an actual character scene, and that was how it should have been. Plus it was a really good song.

"For Good"
- This was amazing. I loved it and thought that Lea and Chris’ performance was stunning and I literally got chills. I love Kurt and Rachel’s friendship and I hope that it actually continues to carry on into season 3, and not just an afterthought like it has kinda been portrayed this season.

"I Love New York / New York, New York"
Amazing. I thought the montage was great and it was exactly what I would expect in this episode.

"Light Up the World"
I thought I was listening to Loser Like Me at first and then realized I wasn’t. I loved how it was like everyone ELSES song. It was kinda catchy, but it’s no wonder they lost Nationals.

"My Cup"
This was adorable. It was a perfect Brittany song and just really fit her. I wish it was a Britanna duet, but as long as Brittany was singing it was great.

"Pretending"
I’m really not a Finchel shipper, but I thought the song was really pretty.

"Still Got Tonight"
No. Just no. I think it’s cool that you got your own stuff Morrison, but cmon Ryan did it have to go into the episode? Morrison’s voice was great, we just didn’t need the song.

"Yeah!"
An all lesbian school. Santana and I can both dig it. It was Dalton but for girls. Please don’t tell me Santana switches there next year and then gets repressed by some Goddess Lesbian Do Gooder.

All in all, I never thought I would find a show where the character killer is music. Pretty good music, just didn’t need to all be in ONE episode.

I am just SO disappointed with this episode. It could have been epic, but it just fell below flat. It was lame. It focused on the music rather than the characters and that was its biggest downfall. I hope that next year’s finale isn’t just a whole bunch of songs with a random graduation ceremony in it, because if this year’s finale is any indication of what it might be then that is it.

Ugh. Where is my Santana 'No me gusta' .gif?
