A Love Letter To The Good Wife Season 2 Finale.

I have recently started watching The Good Wife. I have always heard a lot of great things about this show but could never find the time to start watching it. Well my cable went out one day and I thought it would be a great time to start. I was instantly hooked. The characters are so rich and diverse, and you can tell right off the bat that this isn't just a procedural, that it is going to be more about the characters.

I was hooked from the Pilot and from there I could not stop devouring this series. I had fallen in love with everything about this show, from the phenomenal guest stars, to the intense story lines, everything. However, it wasn't until the Season 2 finale that I realized that this show is downright epic. I hate using that word anymore but I cannot think of a more fitting one.

The last scene in the finale was so well crafted that I watched the whole thing with my mouth gaping. I am not really a Alicia/Will fan, I don't hate them I just don't care either way, but I loved how this scene was done with them. It may have been lost on people who aren't big TV fans, but this felt like such a treat for people who are. They took all of the Season Finale clichés and used them to build a scene that used what people thought they knew what would happen and flipped it and made a very intense scene.

The build up in the bar, we know that it is going to go somewhere, this is a season finale after all, but how it turns out we still don't know. All they want is an hour, but are they going to get it? They try to get a room but it is all booked up, is this a sign that they shouldn't do it? Will isn't going to have that so he pays for the Presidential Suite. I don't blame him for paying 8 Grand to sleep with Alicia, she is pretty damn amazing.

They get into the Elevator and the kid has pressed almost every button on the panel because her mom needs to learn how to parent better, so now Will and Alicia have to stop at all of those floors before getting to the top to the Presidential Suite which is where this really starts to get good. When it stops at each floor and the door opens and closes and we get a glimpse at each of their faces. You can tell that they are both questioning what they are doing right now every time the elevator stops and the longer and longer it is taking to get to the top. Their adrenaline of doing something like this is slowly fading over time and they are beginning to start thinking clearly. Alicia is the first one to say something.

"Will... Maybe..."

And then he takes her hand to comfort her and let her know that it is alright. He kisses her to remind her that this is something that they both want. While all of this is happening, the elevator doors are opening and closing. It makes for a VERY beautiful love scene, however, this is where the being a TV Fan comes in, with each stop in the back of your head you are thinking 'what else could go wrong on the way up? Could someone who could use this against them be on one of the floors waiting for an elevator and see them?'. It adds to the level of thrill and anxiety to see if these two people can make it to the top and do what they set out to do.

Will tries to but the Key card into the door and it won't work. He says that he is going to talk to the receptionist to get a new card. This pumped up the anxiety even more, after all, this is it, they are at the hotel room door trying to get it, no more chances of getting caught and now Will is going to go downstairs and increase the odds of something happening to stop them from getting together. Alicia however stops him and shows him that he was using the card wrong and opens it up, they are finally in the clear. They go in and the camera pans out rather than follows them. It was a very subtle cliffhanger that was executed beautifully.

This very well may just be me feeling this, but I would think that anyone who truly appreciates The Good Wife and is also a TV buff should be able to see the same thing.
