"Dear certain Bonnie fans. You would prefer beautiful, strong Bonnie to be with a murderous vampire like Kol as opposed to a great new guy just because her mother -- who she never knew -- happened to be his friend and guardian? I don't mean to make it hostile, but no. I'm sorry. With respect, just... no. Sorry to non-certain Bonnie fans who have no idea what I'm talking about. Just had to vent. Sometimes my mentions get ugly."
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but for the life of me I cannot see how this was in any way rude. She says what she feels about Bonnie, and even makes a point to let everyone know that she isn't being hostile, that she just doesn't see how someone could want Bonnie (of all characters) to be with a murderous vampire rather than a sweet guy. Whether or not Jamie is anything isn't really the point here, the point is whether or not Bonnie should be with a vampire. I expressed my opinions about this on twitter, but I wanted to go into more detail on here.
Bonnie has been screwed over by vampire pretty much since the beginning. She had the stance where she was firmly against vampires, but that has let up a bit which doesn't necessarily mean that she is changing, she is just opening up to the idea that sometimes vampires can help. But does that mean that she should be dating one? Bonnie can grow as a character, and show that she can get along with vampires without having to date them. Just because other characters date vampires doesn't mean that Bonnie should.
Now I should actually clarify something, should a vampire who doesn't kill people for fun, and who is actually a pretty decent person/vamp (a friend pointed this out to me), then that would be different. Trying to pair Bonnie with one of the current male vampires isn't a good look, every male vampire is pretty damn blood thirsty and doesn't give two shits about who they kill. That has always been something that Bonnie has taken a big stance against, I'm not saying that Elena is for it, but Bonnie doesn't allow the vampires charms to fog her judgment. She may start to be friendly towards certain vampires and work with them, but she never loses focus on what they really are. It goes against who she is a character for her to be romantically involved with a vampire; it just doesn't make much sense. It could be a way to give her character more sides, but really is a relationship the only way to give her more dimensions? If a show runner cannot come up with another way to give a character more depth than putting them in a relationship, then maybe they should rethink whether or not they should even be running a show. Yes, that was a dig at Glee.
If you don't like Jamie, than that’s cool, Julie never said that you should, she was just comparing the two characters. Would you rather have your favorite character be with someone who would keep her in character, or would you want her with someone that just goes against everything that she stands for and is a blood thirsty character who has shown ZERO remorse? Using the "Jamie is like her brother" statement is just not helping a thing. First of all, Bonnie has only met the guy ONCE. Second, Her mom didn't give birth to him, nor is he related by blood in any way. Third, her mom was his guardian, making sure that he stayed safe and out of trouble. Fourth, the only person this could be REMOTELY weird for would be Bonnie’s mom.
I just don't see how someone could want Bonnie to remain who she is and have her with a murderous vampire. I am a huge Bonnie fan and I really want her to get more screen time, but I will not trade in character for screen time. I would honestly rather them kill Bonnie instead of them ruining her character, screen time just isn't worth it. I kind of respect Julie for saying what she said. She knows Bonnie’s character and just doesn't understand how people could ship this. She didn't say that they were stupid or call them names, she simply said that no, it doesn't make sense to her that Bonnie would legitimately fall for a guy like Kol. I wish she hadn't deleted those tweets, because the fact that she stood up for it was a pretty ballsy thing to do in this day and age with how vicious people can be on social media.
The one thing that all Bonnie fans can agree on though, is that she needs to get some dick.
